WA GAS EXPLOSION HURTS SMALL BUSINESS
The effects of the gas explosion on Varanus Island are already being felt by businesses across the State, and it is unlikely that any business will avoid a negative flow-on. At the very least, the laying-off of construction and mining workers will lead to a reduction of demand across all sectors. It will be several months before supplies are fully re-stated and all business owners are encouraged to review their operations to assess what future effects may be experienced. Early remedial action may save costs and avoid lost production over the coming months.
Small Business Minister Margaret Quirk has issued a press release encouraging small business owners to curb their energy use saying that although supply would resume, at least partially within two months, some businesses - especially those in the mining, resource and building sectors - were already feeling the pinch.
